I just started a LDR with someone (do I call him a sailor? Or what other names can I refer to him as) who has been in the Navy for over 5 years (he is an ETN), and will be done and out in 6 months. I feel like most of the threads I’ve seen posted here are regarding SO’s who are just starting their journey, or still actively in the Navy. If its silent during facetime ask her how she feels being away from you, her love life, her friends. If she is dating someone dont react if she is instead ask about him, how she is being treated, if she feels safe. If you really care for her you would just want her to be happy. I seriously doubt any guy would be able to compete with. My (f42) husband (m44) and I have been married for 21 years. We have two adult children (m22 and m24), one is in college out of state and the other is in the navy. When we first got married, my husband was in navy, and we spent the first 10 years of our marriage moving from place to place, wherever his new duty station was.

Navy

I've recently gotten involved with a woman who is also joining the Navy (she ships on 10/19, I ship on 12/01). We're both going into the same rate and both are looking into applying for Officer positions several years into our service.

I know I'm looking far into the future on this, but it crossed my mind and I don't know that answer to this question: If we stay together and one of us makes officer and the other doesn't what happens then? I know that officers and enlisted aren't allowed to date, so would be be forced to stop seeing each other? What would happen if we were married and one made officer and the other didn't? Would the person that was accepted into OCS be barred from actually accepting the position?

I know this is random but I just thought about the fact that I don't exactly know how this situation would be handled.

And no, I'm not thinking of marrying her, we just started dating. I previously hadn't considered the possibility of dating someone in the service though which is why I just thought of this.

Thanks for any answers.
